Optimizing Children’s Health and Wellbeing;

The Early Development Instrument (EDI) measures the developmental health and wellbeing of young children in their second year of kindergarten. As well as other developmental indicators, it measures physical health and wellbeing. Results show that children from Fort Erie’s North and South Neighbourhoods are considered vulnerable in that area. Hungry children are unable to reach their full potential in school and in other areas of their lives.

Strong Fort Erie Neighbourhoods (SFEN) is working with children’s nutrition agencies who serve in Fort Erie’s North and South Neighbourhoods to identify possible gaps in food provision to children and implement an action plan to fill any gaps.

SFEN are creating an inventory of existing, active organizations and programs that support healthy development of children for the purposes of planning and enhancing access to these resources.
